Great Mall is a large indoor outlet shopping mall in Milpitas, California, built in 1994. It is the largest enclosed outlet and value retail shopping destination in Northern California, with more than 159 stores and restaurants, a 20-screen movie theater, and a LEGOLAND Discovery Center. It is owned and managed by Simon Property Group since 2007. Great Mall is located on 447 Great Mall Drive, Milpitas, CA 95035. It was developed by Ford Motor Land Development and Petrie Dierman Kughn on the site of the former Ford Motor Company San Jose Assembly Plant, which closed in 1983. The mall cost $200 million to build and was designed by RTKL Associates, who also designed the Mall of America in Minnesota. The mall opened on September 10, 1994 with four anchor stores: JCPenney Outlet, Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory, and Dave & Buster’s. The mall also had an ice skating rink, which was later replaced by a food court in 2003. The mall underwent several renovations and changes over the years, such as adding Old Navy and Bed Bath & Beyond as new anchor stores in 1996, replacing JCPenney Outlet with Last Call by Neiman Marcus in 1998, adding Kohl’s as a new anchor store in 2003, replacing Dave & Buster’s with Century Theatres in 2005, adding Sports Authority as a new anchor store in 2010, replacing Sports Authority with H&M in 2016, and adding LEGOLAND Discovery Center as a new attraction in 2018.

Great Mall has over 159 stores and restaurants that offer a variety of products and services to its customers. Some of the major retailers include Nike Factory Store, Coach Outlet, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, UNIQLO, Tommy Hilfiger Company Store, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors Outlet and Levi’s Outlet Store. The mall also has six anchor stores: Bed Bath & Beyond, Burlington, H&M, Kohl’s, Last Call by Neiman Marcus and Marshalls. The mall also has several pop-up stores that feature emerging brands and exclusive collections. Great Mall has a diverse selection of dining options that cater to different tastes and budgets. Some of the restaurants include Olive Garden, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews, Outback Steakhouse, Jollibee, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panda Express. The mall also has a food court that offers fast food choices such as Burger King, Sbarro, Subway, and Wetzel’s Pretzels. Great Mall is open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sunday. Great Mall has a two-level parking structure that can accommodate up to 8 000 vehicles. It is located on Great Mall Drive and Montague Expressway. The parking is free for all customers. Great Mall is accessible by public transport as well. There are several bus stops near Great Mall that are served by VTA and AC Transit buses.
