Toys "R" Us is US based toy and baby products retailer operating internationally. The brand was founded in 1948 when the first store was founded as Children's Supermarket. Later Toy "R" Us expanded around US and became the synonym for toy store. In its best years the company operated 800+ stores in US and 800+ around the world.
The company had problems to adapt to market change and overslept time when toys and other goods started to be primarily sold over the Internet. Since it couldn't compete with such retailers as Amazon it filled for bankruptcy in 2017, Canadian division was sold and is still operating, European stores were closed. Some US stores continue under the brand Tru Kids.
In 2020 there are 2 Toys "R" Us stores - one is in Paramus, New Jersey, second in Houston, Texas.
