Galleria Vans Review by ,
Used to work here. The managers are all great. Specifically, Leo, Daniel, Max, and Chris. Not only are they all great at their jobs, but they also train the incoming employees well and treat them with kindness and respect. They set an example and uphold the integrity of the store. For me, while they all exceeded my expectations as managers (which has never happened in my three years in the work force at all the places I have worked at) Daniel was the one who really stuck out me. His passion for the store and his work really shows at any position (sales floor, cashier, etc) and its a shame they pay their managers hourly. With all the money they're making the least they can do is pay their managers what they deserve. The main manager who works there, Tracy, is also great. She has a passion for the store and the end of the day she gets her job done. However, if you stay there long enough, one thing you will notice is that she lashes out at her employees over simple mistakes. Wether it be opening the box of shoes incorrectly to customers, or not properly thanking them when they leave, she sometimes will yell at her employees, which lowers the overall energy and morale in the store. While this does happen often, I wouldn't say that it happens every day, only when it seems like she is upset. I wish I could say I was the only one who experienced this problem but every employee who I interacted with had the same issues. One numerous occasions I spotted other employees who made mistakes who didn't know how to fix them, and were panicking, and were too afraid to tell her because they felt that she would get mad and yell at them for messing up. Not only this, but also the top salesman at this particular location, who month after month exceeded expectations and won the top salesman over and over again (won multiple awards for his sales numbers), was great with customers, and brought a positive energy to the workplace, quit on the spot after being yelled at out by Tracy for seemingly no reason. Not a good look. She also cites that "the shoes will sell themselves" leaving no credit to the people on the sales floor who work their asses off to meet the stores lengthy quotas and then when something goes wrong she blames the employees rather than looking at the system from a broader perspective on how it can be improved. Not to mention, one of my co-workers asked for a transfer from one location to another, instead of telling him that she didn't want to do it, she said "the jobs in that area tough to come by". When he and I looked for job openings in the six locations he asked for a transfer to, more than one of them had job openings. It was clear that she just didn't want to recommend him for a transfer, which is fine. But if your gonna do that, you at-least have to have the balls to say to his face. From a customers perspective, this is probably the best location you can go to. The customer service is impeccable and in my opinion better than the location at North Park and Tracy does a damn good job of providing that. She obviously knows what she is doing and she runs the store better than anyone else. Her experience and dedication to the job led the store to record number sales and even allowed for them to open up a bigger location in the mall. But if your looking for a job, its clear which location has the better work environment. I visited Northpark on multiple occasion every month for over a year and I can confidently say they have a better work atmosphere and a more laid back environment. The other location (Galleria) has the employees scared shitless. The Galleria location runs extremely well, I would give this a 4.5 stars if I could, they only way they could improve is internally through the flaws I mentioned above. If your a customer, you should have nothing to worry about with the things I mentioned, Tracy is always insanely kind and respectful towards customers. But if your thinking of getting a job there, I would make sure your okay with the issues I mentioned above.
