mobile phone replacement by ,
Already had mobile phone service w Spectrum, just went in person to the store at Ingram to buy a replacement phone. Mine was fairly new, only a few months & I had recently paid it off early, in full. It got water damaged & the warranty does not cover it. I wanted the same model, but rep told me it wasn't available any longer. Ok, so let me have another one similar, pls. I wanted to pay for the phone directly from my checking account with my debit card, in full. But for some reason he set me up with a payment plan. It took forever. I don't know what they were doing but Miguel was on the computer, processing my order while I was standing there. He was taking pictures of my Drivers License. After he took my debit card and processed my payment he said they would not let me take the phone home with me. They were sending it UPS. Why!?? He couldn't give me a straight answer. They did that the first time too, with the phone that is water damaged. I was very dissapointed. My credit is very good. It took 4 business days for my new phone to arrive & I had been needing it for work. I had to take 3 days off, without pay while waiting for my phone to arrive. So about 10 days later I get a letter from Spectrum saying they did a credit check with Experian, my score is 794 but wasn't considered good because I "don't have real estate or a mortgage, lack of sufficient bank card & revolving accounts". What!? I've had several credit cards for years & I've had Chase Bank account(s) for many years. I rent. Then to top it off the letter says, 'We are offering you less favorable terms offered to other consumers who have better credit.' That was the last straw. Word of advice, when you want to pay for a device in full, Do NOT let the sales agent talk you into setting up a payment plan! They do NOT tell you that they are Running Your Credit! They should Always tell a customer when they have to do a Credit Check. Now I'm wondering if they ran additional credit checks for the internet and tv service as well, cause I got a bundle and those services are billed separately. Word of Advice, just say, "I want to pay for this device in full & do NOT run my credit!" Each time your credit gets a hard hit it lowers your credit score. I'm sure they did this on the Initial phone I bought 6 months earlier, because again, they talked me into getting a payment plan. But they DONT SAY that they are doing a Credit Check. Just Let Us Know These Things, PLEASE! I'm not dumb, people are busy, we have a lot of things on our minds. Both times I offered to pay in full for these phones. Just Be Fair when doing business, Spectrum! So now this is twice, probably 3 times that they ran my credit within 6 months! I already had service and current accounts with Spectrum. I kept the same phone number! I just wanted to pay cash for a replacement phone. So, they asked me to make payments, did a credit check & had to send the phone UPS!? It doesn't make sense! I didn't realize what was going on while it was going on, because there's a long line of people waiting. They make you think that they know what they are doing, but they are just making things worse than they need to be. There's nothing worse than a silent sales rep who's running your credit with a hard hit and they don't tell you they're doing that at the time. Plus, not even getting what you walked in there for, to simply pay for in-full and bring the new phone home with me that same day! Wake Up Spectrum! & you can't call the store it's just an 800 number.
