Ring with small stones by ,
My mother passed away and left several rings. I brought the rings to Kay Jewelers to see if the rings were real diamonds. I was told by "Ann" that she could not tell me what they were worth but all of the rings were diamonds. Wanting a second opinion, I brought the rings to Jared Jewelers who told me the same thing. Several weeks later, I brought one of the rings to the store as the band was too big for my finger. The ring had several small stones. This time I dealt with "Kathy". She tested the ring for diamonds and appeared to be having trouble with the instrument she was using. I kept asking her if they were real diamonds and she said " Probably" and later "They are real". She took pictures of the ring and sent it off to be sized. She told me the ring was probably a little less than 1/2 karat. I have a receipt for the work which states the estimated value to be $899, a ring with 13 small stones and 14kt yellow gold. I was charged $52 for the alteration. The ring came back and looked lovely. It was all polished and shiny. It looked better than when I brought it in. And then a week ago, I noticed that the band looked different. It appeared tarnished and the gold on it was coming off. I brought the ring to a different jewelry store and was told that the ring was gold plated and the stones were synthetic. I was very disappointed. I brought the ring back to Kay's and complained. Kathy was not there and I dealt with the service manager, "Vickey". I asked her why I was led to believe that the ring was authentic when it was not and she said mistakes happen. She also informed me that the receipt stated that the ring was tested for diamonds and it came back negative. Kathy did not share that with me. The receipt states "Diamond tested - N". I assumed that meant it was not tested as she was having difficulty with the instrument. Also if the ring was synthetic, the information on the receipt was false. The band is not 14 kt gold and probably not worthe $899. Obviously, this store does not know what they are doing. I will never do business with Kay Jewelers again. They mislead their customers!
