Here's my review of my personal experience, and that of my family's, in the Foot Locker store on the lower level of the South Town Mall in Sandy, Utah.
My husband, 11 year old son, and I were at the mall on Wednesday, July 12th, 2017 between 1800-1930. We were there shopping, and exchanging some shoes at another establishment, which led to a discussion about a specific type of athletic shoes that my son was interested in looking at, which led us to the Foot Locker store.
We entered the store at 1850. There were 2 young, male employees present. I won't say they were 'working,' but that'll be clear in a sentence or two. Besides us, there were two other 'non-employees' in the store. Overall, it was quiet, and definitely not busy.
My initial impression is that the store itself was a little unkempt; a bit of a mess. Both employees were at the centrally-located sales desk, socializing with the two other people in the store, who appeared to be friends on some level, due to the observation that there was no sales transaction taking place. The conversation seemed very casual, with laughter, phones out, and leaning on counters.
Once the others left, it was just us in the store. We had been walking around, picking up a few shoes, and price checking thus far. Neither employee stopped chatting, laughing, or looking at their phones yet to greet us, or even look at us yet.
For the next several minutes, we continued to look. At one point, we located a couple shoes we wanted to try on, pulled them off the wall, and caught eye contact with the employees, thinking they'd be right over to assist us. Not the case. Both of them continued to talk and look at their phones. One of them even sat on the counter while he surfed through his YouTube vids or IG posts, maybe sent a few snap chats...who knows?! All I know is that by 1900 I still hadn't received a single 'hi' or offer to help.
Further examination proved the store to be a disaster, with piles of boxes in clear view, stains all over the floors, half-empty displays, tools laying out on shelves, even the FLI store design and instruction book sitting open and easy access to unauthorized areas, had anyone been so inclined.
I included the FLI Vision and Core Values information, with specially highlighted areas in which vast improvements are greatly needed, as well as to bring home the point that, obviously, this store, and these employees, are not adding up to the expectations of the company. I wasn't impressed, and I'm sure whoever's signing those minimum wage checks wouldn't be either. You get to the next level in life by living those core values, regardless of whose company they're attached to.
Official Ratings: (See my rating scale and category info in my 'Rated- T Intro blog)
First Impressions: 1/4-poor first Impressions as explained
Valuation Measure: 1/4- due to being a poor use of my personal time
Quality Merit-1/4: poor quality experience, lack of effort, no skill
Service Classification: 0/4- this seems obvious
Overall Appraisal: 1/4- Technically, if you add up the points and use the appropriate formula...their all time scoreboard would read 0.75/4....technically. Lucky for them, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and some 'wiggle' room this time by rounding up and not calling their GM. The photos alone should catapult the store into change-mode.
By my next visit, they should be all good with the Core Values!
We'll see...
