Westfield UTC is a shopping center located on La Jolla Village Drive in the University City neighborhood of San Diego, California, United States. It is one of the city’s premier shopping and leisure destinations and currently serves a trade area population of 1.1 million residents, with a total accessible market of 3.3 million residents. Westfield UTC was opened in 1977 as University Towne Centre, a three-level shopping center anchored by Sears, The Broadway and May Company. The center also included an ice skating rink and a movie theater. In 1998, the center was acquired by Westfield Group and rebranded as Westfield Shoppingtown UTC. The center underwent several renovations and expansions over the years, adding new tenants such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Crate & Barrel and Tiffany & Co. In 2012, the center celebrated the opening of a $180 million resort-inspired transformation, featuring new luxury boutiques and top national fashion brands; along with a sleek and sophisticated new dining terrace, full service restaurants, and new lifestyle and entertainment choices such as San Diego’s first ArcLight Cinemas (a 14-screen, 1,800-seat luxury theater experience) and 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport club. In 2017, the center added a new flagship Nordstrom store, a new Apple store, a new Tesla showroom and more specialty shops. In 2019, the center added a new dining precinct with several restaurants and cafes.

Westfield UTC has 159 stores, including major brands such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Apple, Tesla, Tiffany & Co., Crate & Barrel and more. The center offers a range of products and services, from fashion and beauty to homeware and entertainment. Westfield UTC also has over 30 dining options. The center has a dining terrace with stunning views of San Diego city, as well as several cafes and restaurants around the center. Westfield UTC is open seven days a week, from 10am to 9pm on Monday to Saturday, and from 11am to 7pm on Sunday. Westfield UTC has over 5000 car parks available for customers. The car park is accessible from La Jolla Village Drive or Genesee Avenue. There are also disabled parking spaces near the main entrances of the center. Westfield members can receive free parking for up to four hours when they see a movie at ArcLight Cinemas or spend $50 or more at any store in the center.

Why did they move Nordstrom? It was beautifully located and convenient at its original location. Who redesigned this mall? It’s Not good. Also, I trip on the new brick they installed throughout the outside of the mall. It’s not level!!!? Mall employees have heard it from shoppers and agree the mall was better before. Confusing, long distances to walk, no longer pleasant place to shop. Parking structure is smelly, loud, and unsafe for women.

Since the mall was rebuilt, I have given up going to any place but Nordstrom. When you are in the parking garage, which is the size of 2 football fields, you have no idea where to park to get to the store you want to go to. If there were maps at intervals all around the garage, you could look at the map and see where you should park to get to the stores you want. I don't go there anymore. It's too frustrating, and you can end up walking way out of your way. Perhaps that's intentional, so you would see more stores, but I just find it such an inconvenience, I won't go there. So many friends agree with me.
